The perpetrators used the stolen 116,500 rsETH as collateral on the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-aave\">Aave<\/a> platform to obtain loans. This resulted in $190 million of &#8220;bad debt&#8221; and a massive outflow of funds from the lending protocol.<\/p>\n<p>Funds for the recovery were gathered by Kelp with the support of the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/arbitrum-dao-approves-70-million-transfer-to-defi-united-fund\">DeFi United<\/a> initiative. Other crypto projects also participated in the plan&#8217;s implementation.<\/p>\n<p>The first tranche of 25,000 rsETH was received on May 13, allowing the resumption of <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-cross-chain-bridges\">cross-chain bridges<\/a> between the Ethereum mainnet and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-layer%e2%80%912-solution-in-blockchain\">L2<\/a> solutions. The following day, developers reopened withdrawals. Burning and reward accruals are operating normally.<\/p>\n<p>The Kelp hack contributed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/investors-pull-more-than-8-6bn-from-aave-after-kelp-hack\">decline<\/a> in the total value locked in the Aave protocol, which fell from $26.3 billion to $17.7 billion.<\/p>\n<p>In April, a <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/april-sets-record-for-crypto-industry-hacks\">record number of hacks<\/a> in the crypto industry was recorded for a single month. More than 20 incidents resulted in $651 million in damages.<\/p>\n<p>In May, hacking attacks targeted <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/hacker-exploits-1-4-million-vulnerability-in-ekubo-contract\">Ekubo<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/trustedvolumes\/\">TrustedVolumes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/thorchain-team-reveals-details-of-10-million-hack\">THORChain<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/hackers-extract-11-5-million-from-verus-protocol\">Verus<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/echo-protocol-suffers-816000-hack\">Echo<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/mapo-token-plummets-96-following-hack\">Map Protocol<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Kelp protocol has restored the collateral for the rsETH token five weeks after the hack.
