{"id":97643,"date":"2026-05-29T09:45:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T06:45:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=97643"},"modified":"2026-05-29T10:25:28","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T07:25:28","slug":"u-s-treasury-secretary-rules-out-digital-dollar-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/u-s-treasury-secretary-rules-out-digital-dollar-launch\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Treasury Secretary Rules Out Digital Dollar Launch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The current U.S. administration will not allow the introduction of a <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-central-bank-digital-currency-cbdc\">central bank digital currency (CBDC)<\/a>, according to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/swQUiRO9aZM?si=ZybWM7VLDn-2lnlQ\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Treasury chief consistently opposes CBDCs, maintaining the stance of the Trump administration, which, following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/strengthening-american-leadership-in-digital-financial-technology\/\">January directive<\/a>, abandoned the idea of a digital currency from the <span data-descr=\"Federal Reserve System\" class=\"old_tooltip\">Fed<\/span> and focused on private dollar stablecoins.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe current administration has clearly stated that there will be no central bank digital currency. It would be the first step towards surveillance, so we have excluded this option from discussion,\u201d Bessent said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Back in January 2025, during his confirmation, Bessent <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/us-treasury-nominee-opposes-a-cbdc\">publicly rejected<\/a> the initiative to create a CBDC. In February 2026, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centralbanking.com\/fintech\/7974974\/world-will-choose-dollar-stablecoins-over-cbdcs-bessent?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">stated<\/a> that the global market would choose the dollar and private sector solutions over state digital currencies.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Treasury is advancing its own crypto agenda. In April, Bessent urged Congress to expedite the adoption of the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/clarity-act-clears-key-senate-vote\">CLARITY Act<\/a>, warning that regulatory uncertainty is already driving developers and capital to Singapore and Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n<p>In the same month, the department presented a draft of rules for implementing the GENIUS Act\u2014a framework for stablecoin regulation.<\/p>\n<p>In July, Bessent <a href=\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/news\/press-releases\/sb0197?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">called<\/a> stablecoins a \u201crevolution\u201d in digital finance.
