TechCrunch confirmed that access without a paid subscription is available at least from New Zealand.
A user named Swak highlighted the main features of the limited version of the chatbot:
- access to Grok for accounts registered at least a week ago and linked with a phone number;
- 10 requests every two hours to Grok-2 and 20 to Grok-2 mini;
- ability to analyze up to three images per day.
In August, xAI launched the beta version of Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini. The neural network can generate images on X and “possesses advanced capabilities in conversation, programming, and reasoning.” At the end of October, image understanding was added to the chatbot.
The aforementioned features were previously available only to Premium and Premium+ subscribers.
Back in September, xAI launched the Colossus AI training cluster using 100,000 Nvidia H100 graphics processors.
