Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi is set to integrate Google’s Gemini AI into its new flagship smartphone series, the Xiaomi 15. This development was reported by SCMP.

“We are excited to collaborate with Google in developing new Xiaomi flagship devices for international markets. By utilizing Google Cloud and Gemini, we can offer a more intelligent and intuitive experience. An exciting journey lies ahead!” commented the company’s CEO, Lei Jun.
The upcoming Xiaomi 15 smartphones are expected to be unveiled later this year.
This announcement pertains to the international market, with no mention of integrating large language models into smartphones for mainland China. SCMP notes that the Gemini AI and other foreign neural networks are unavailable in the country.
Another Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Oppo, also employs Gemini in its Android devices aimed at the international market.
In January, Samsung launched new Galaxy S24 smartphones featuring Google’s AI, later announcing a collaboration with Baidu to integrate its large language model Ernie for the Chinese market.
In July, the company introduced foldable smartphones Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and earbuds Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Buds 3 Pro with new AI features.
American corporation Apple has planned to launch Apple Intelligence in the autumn, though it will be unavailable in China and Europe. The company intends to collaborate with a Chinese AI provider to integrate neural networks into smartphones sold in China, the newspaper notes.
Earlier, the CEO of Honor described AI capabilities as “useless” without data privacy.
