ZKsync Era’s Airdrop Fails to Revive Network Activity
The number of active addresses (7 DMA) in the ZKsync Era L2 network fell from 455,000 to 218,000 between late February and June 10, as noted by experts from The Block.
The average daily number of transactions during this period decreased from 1.75 million to 512,000.
On June 11, the ZKsync association confirmed the airdrop of ZK tokens, and both metrics showed a slight rebound.
The project distributed 3.6 billion ZK (17.5% of the total supply) among more than 695,000 addresses that met the criteria for interaction with ZKsync Era and ZKsync Lite.
The application process for receiving tokens might have encouraged users to return to the network, but the airdrop was a one-time event, experts noted.
According to Nansen, 41% of the largest addresses that received ZK during the distribution have already sold them.
ZKsync Era remains the most popular network in the ZK-Rollups segment, despite fluctuations in metrics from ConsenSys’s Linea. However, its activity metrics lag behind those of the most well-known platforms based on Optimistic Rollups — Arbitrum One and Base.
Earlier, the ZKsync airdrop faced community criticism, as only 13% of the 6 million unique wallets were eligible, many of which turned out to be “sybils.”
