Polyhedra Network Accuses zkSync of Token Ticker Theft

The Web3 infrastructure startup Polyhedra Network has criticized the Layer 2 solution zkSync for choosing the ticker ZK for its token.

“It’s incredible that in 2024, even with the approval of the ETH ETF, there are still projects that offer advantages to certain parties and deprive others of their rightful name. Web3 was not meant to be a breeding ground for bullying,” stated Polyhedra.

The startup team called on the crypto community for fairness and labeled zkSync as “robbers and thieves, not blockchain builders.”

On May 24, the cryptocurrency exchange Bybit announced the upcoming listing of the zkSync token, assigning it the ticker ZK. However, this ticker is associated with Polyhedra, prompting the trading platform to issue a notice about its change. The new ticker and further details will be announced “soon.”

Journalist Colin Wu noted that Polyhedra Network was initially called ZKbridge with the ticker ZKB. Later, with its listing on OKX, it was changed to ZK.

The crypto community criticized Polyhedra Network for a “shoddy” airdrop and refused to support the project.

“No one supports you. You changed your ticker twice before choosing ZK, which zkSync was going to use, and you knew it,” wrote Picolas Cage.

A user named Hanzo quoted the original Polyhedra Network post and called it “unbelievable” that projects with “shoddy” airdrops believe in community support.

Earlier reports indicated zkSync’s intention to launch a token in June, with an airdrop allegedly taking place in the same month. The total supply will be 21 billion tokens.
