Hut 8 Unveils Cutting-Edge ASIC Miner for Bitcoin Extraction
The publicly traded company Hut 8 has introduced a next-generation miner, developed in collaboration with Bitmain, known as the U3S21EXPH.
Today, Hut 8 is launching a next-generation ASIC miner developed in partnership with @BITMAINtech. The U3S21EXPH will be the first ASIC miner mass-commercialized by BITMAIN to feature direct liquid-to-chip (DLC) cooling within a U form factor.

The key feature of the device is the direct liquid-to-chip (DLC) cooling technology, commonly used in data centers for high-performance computing.
According to Hut 8’s website, the U3S21EXPH can achieve a hash rate of 860 TH/s with an energy efficiency of 13 joules per terahash.
The agreement includes the deployment of a new center with a total capacity of 15 EH/s in the second quarter of 2025, “with a potential transition to self-mining through a purchase option.” The parties will also work on integrating AI infrastructure.
The commissioning of new capacities is expected to increase Hut 8’s available hash rate from the current 18.5 EH/s to 33.5 EH/s.
Following the block reward reduction after the April halving, the profitability of mining the first cryptocurrency has significantly decreased, as illustrated in the graph below.

Hut 8 intends to increase its available capacity to 1.3 GW, partly through the purchase of electricity for a site in Texas.
In June, the company raised $150 million to develop AI computing infrastructure.
