EigenLayer’s X Account Hacked to Promote Fake Airdrop

Unknown individuals gained control of the X account of the restaking protocol EigenLayer to distribute phishing content disguised as an EIGEN airdrop for the second season of Stakedrop. This was warned by on-chain investigator ZachXBT.

According to Scam Sniffer, the perpetrators added a malicious link and urged users to claim coins, warning of a “last call.”

According to the platform, one phishing victim allegedly lost $800,000 in mETH after signing a transaction.

The project team managed to regain control and remove the offending posts.

The second season of Stakedrop began in September and has already concluded.

On September 30, EigenLayer developers lifted restrictions on the transfer of EIGEN. Holders can now trade and transfer their tokens, including airdrop rewards. Major exchanges have listed the asset.

Earlier in October, the team reported a compromise of the project’s email branch and the theft of 1.67 million EIGEN, valued at approximately $6 million. Representatives of EigenLayer assured that there are no known vulnerabilities in the protocol or token contracts.
