Cosmos Ecosystem Launches Its Own EVM Platform
The Interchain Foundation (ICF), which oversees the Cosmos ecosystem, has funded the transformation of the EVM platform evmOS into an open-source solution.

The framework developed under the Evmos project allows developers to launch EVM-based blockchains using the Cosmos SDK.
ICF will create a fork of the evmOS technology called Cosmos EVM as part of the Interchain Stack, to be further developed by the Interchain Labs team.
The Evmos blockchain and its associated libraries are not included in the deal and remain independent. The protocol facilitates cross-chain interaction between Ethereum and Cosmos.
Federico Kunze Küllmer, co-founder of Evmos and lead developer of evmOS from Tharsis Labs, will take on the role of ICF consultant. He will provide guidance on the functional compatibility of Cosmos EVM with Ethereum, the modular architecture of the blockchain, and the roadmap.
“We believe this is the right thing for the community in terms of the longevity of the code we have developed, and we are pleased with the support from ICF,” said Küllmer.
According to the statement, evmOS as Cosmos EVM will remain “committed to its core goals of enhancing the EVM ecosystem and ensuring seamless integration of Ethereum with Cosmos networks.” Conducting a platform audit is among the priority goals.
Following the deal, the Evmos token (EVMOS) dropped nearly 36% in the last 24 hours. The asset is trading at $0.0046 — 99.9% below its peak of $6.84 recorded in April 2022.
Cosmos Hub (ATOM) prices remained unaffected by the news.
Back in November 2023, Evmos developers decided to gradually cease support for Cosmos transactions and focus solely on EVM.
