Meta Trials AI-Generated Comments on Instagram

Meta is experimenting with artificial intelligence in Instagram to assist users in crafting comments. This development was highlighted by X user Jonah Manzano.

Upon examining the new features, he noticed the option “Write with Meta AI.” This tool allows users to generate comments for posts by friends.

The service is represented by a pencil icon next to the text field for users who have access to the test feature. By clicking the Meta AI button, the tool analyzes the photo and suggests three comment options.

For instance, if the image shows a smiling person giving a thumbs-up in their living room, the AI might suggest comments such as:

• “love the cozy vibe”;
• “great spot for a photoshoot”;
• “charming living room setting”.

If the user is not satisfied with the comments, they can generate new ones.

Meta frequently tests new AI features. Last year, it trialed comment summarization on Facebook.

In June 2024, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the addition of AI-generated characters in Instagram, created by authors using AI Studio.
