Scottish School to Pioneer Bitcoin Payments in the UK

The Lomond School, a boarding institution, will begin accepting tuition payments in Bitcoin in the autumn of 2025, according to BBC.

Representatives of the school, located in the Scottish town of Helensburgh, noted that the decision was influenced by requests from parents of students, including those from abroad.

The administration believes the initiative aligns with the school’s “ideals of independent thinking and innovation.”

Payments will be implemented in several stages. Initially, the received cryptocurrency will be converted into pounds sterling to “mitigate currency risks.” The institution does not plan to accept assets other than Bitcoin.

According to Lomond School, this is the first instance of cryptocurrency payments being introduced among private schools in the UK.

The cost of tuition is up to £38,000 (approximately $49,700 or 0.58 BTC at the time of writing) per year. The school accepts local and international students aged three to 18.

Earlier in the American state of Georgia, a proposal was made to introduce kindergarteners to blockchain technology.
