Base Team to Revamp Infrastructure Following Network Outage
On August 5, block production in the Base L2 network came to a halt. The outage lasted 33 minutes. The project team published a report detailing the incident.
The cause was an error in the automatic Conductor system, which ensures network stability. Due to high activity, the primary sequencer began to lag. The system attempted to transfer control to a backup, but it was not fully configured and could not create blocks.
A configuration error prevented the new faulty sequencer from initiating a retry of the control transfer. This led to a complete network shutdown.
Engineers manually disabled the Conductor system to stop automatic switching. They then selected a functioning sequencer and transferred control to it, fully restoring network operations.
The developers have promised to update the infrastructure. The changes will ensure that any sequencer in the system can correctly transfer control in the event of a failure. The team will test and implement the fixes shortly.
In July, Base activated the Flashblocks update, reducing block creation time from two seconds to 200 milliseconds.
Later, the platform for the first time surpassed Solana in terms of launched coins.
