Vivo Unveils a Rival to Apple’s Vision Pro
Vivo unveils a lighter, potentially cheaper rival to Apple's Vision Pro.
Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has introduced a mixed reality headset reminiscent of Apple’s Vision Pro. It weighs 35% less and is likely to be similarly cheaper, reports SCMP.
The gadget weighs 398 grams compared to the American competitor’s 600 grams. It features a dial for switching between augmented and virtual reality and offers a 180-degree panoramic view.
Vivo markets the device as a “full-fledged computer for the face” and a tool for entertainment and work. It operates on OriginOS, an operating system that allows control of applications using fingers and eyes.
The gadget tracks the user’s location in space to create a “pass-through view” effect and varying levels of immersion.
The hardware includes:
- a metal body;
- numerous cameras and sensors;
- a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip;
- microOLED displays with high pixel density;
- a button for 3D photo and video.
The reduced weight compared to the Apple Vision Pro is achieved through an external battery, which lasts about two hours. The design closely mirrors that of the Cupertino-based company’s device.
The Vivo headset is available for testing in mainland China stores. Pricing and launch dates remain unknown.
Back in July 2024, neurotechnology company Synchron connected a brain implant to Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset.
