Bitcoin Cash community fractures widen as Amaury Sechet, lead developer of the largest client, is urged to step down.
Amaury Sechet, the lead developer of Bitcoin Cash’s largest client, Bitcoin ABC, is convinced of the need to activate the network upgrade scheduled for November. However, the community of the sixth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap is already seeing growing disagreements.
The planned Bitcoin ABC upgrade is expected on November 15. By that date, all network nodes must update their software; otherwise they will remain on the alternate chain.
The upgrade will implement a new difficulty recalculation algorithm called ASERT. It is expected that, together with it, the problem of delays in block formation times will disappear.
Another innovation is the implementation of the Coinbase Rule. It will reject all blocks that do not allocate 8% of the rewards received to the Bitcoin Cash development fund.
In November, two improvements will be made to our node software. These include implementing the aserti3-2d (ASERT) algorithm and a new Coinbase Rule that will fund Bitcoin Cash infrastructure.

Sechet stressed in the post that the announcement is not an invitation to debate. The decision has been made; the upgrade will take place in November, and its code will be released openly for bug-finding and improvement proposals.
In a Cointelegraph comment, Sechet said that the proposed changes would give Bitcoin Cash the opportunity to compete with Bitcoin and Ethereum.
«Bitcoin Cash is underfunded. As a result — weak infrastructure, largely dependent on the work of other teams, such as Bitcoin Core, and imperfect developer tools», he explained.
According to Sechet, the Coinbase Rule will create conditions to attract more talent. Without its implementation, the development of the Bitcoin Cash network will stall.
Sechet acknowledges the existing disagreements and the fact that the idea of diverting a percentage of rewards to the development fund is not to everyone’s taste. Nevertheless, he is convinced that the current split in the community runs deeper than it appears. This is evidenced not only by the debates over Coinbase Rule, but also by recent disagreements over the recalculation of the difficulty. Sechet doubted that the lost unity could be restored in the near future.
Among opponents of the Coinbase Rule was the most well-known supporter of Bitcoin Cash Roger Ver, who compared the upcoming upgrade to an attempt to “copy” Dash (DASH).
«I like Dash. But I think those who want to make BCH look like Dash should simply convert their coins to it», said Ver.
Other members of the Bitcoin Cash community offered more radical ideas. A supporter of the alternative Bitcoin Cash Node (BCHN) client under the pseudonym Nilac The Grim опубликовал this week a post in which he says Sechet should leave the Bitcoin Cash development ranks.
According to him, Bitcoin ABC is facing serious financial problems, and Sechet sees himself as a sort of “Jesus of BCH who believes he deserves more.” Despite miners, other community members and Roger Ver funding him for a long time, he has not delivered the result expected of him.
In a Cointelegraph comment, Nilac The Grim expressed confidence that, despite disagreements, Bitcoin Cash will manage to avoid a split.
«We are in talks with mining pools in China, and it is evident that they are also against such unilateral changes to coinbase rewards», he said.
Amaury Sechet, however, emphasizes that the BCHN alternative chain, even if it arises, would quickly cease to exist.
«The fork will occur if BCHN has more hashrate than ABC, not the other way around», he said.
Earlier, ViaBTC founder Haipo Yang proposed conducting a hard fork in the Bitcoin Cash network called Bitcoin Cat. In his view, removing unspent transaction outputs could double the block reward and allocate funds to developers.
