Media: Ukrainian MPs hold more than $200 million in cryptocurrency

Ukrainian MPs hold cryptocurrency worth about 5.7 billion hryvnias (over $200 million at the time of writing), according to the publication BusinessCensor.

Calculations were based on 2019 declarations.

The largest holding is held by Anatoliy Urbansky. According to declarations, his wallet contains 4,256 BTC and 4,256 Bitcoin Cash. As of writing, the assets were worth about $150 million.

Most MPs prefer to store Bitcoin, though some own other cryptocurrencies.

Deputy Geo Leros, in addition to 49 BTC ($1.7 million), disclosed 356 ETH (almost $460,000), Alexey Ustenko listed as intangible assets three cryptocurrencies — 10 BTC (over $340,000), 15 ETH (about $19,000) and 6 Litecoin (less than $900). The head of the Holos party, Kira Rudyk, has 31 ETH ($40,000) and 1 BTC.

The publication also included Rostyslav Sodol, the son of Verkhovna Rada deputies Natalia Korolevska and Yuri Sodol, with 185,000 XMR (over $27 million). According to the declaration, he acquired cryptocurrency at age 14. He was included on the list because at the time of purchase he was a minor and likely acquired them using his parents’ funds.

In March 2020, Ukraine’s National Agency on Corruption Prevention published rules for declaring cryptocurrencies as a form of \”intangible assets\”.
