Tajik authorities assess taxes on several dozen Bitcoin miners
Citizens and companies that mined the first cryptocurrency in Tajikistan have been ordered to pay taxes. Sputnik reports, citing the tax committee under the government of the republic.
In 2020, officials identified nearly 60 individuals who earned income from Bitcoin mining in the Sughd region and the city of Dushanbe. During the checks, law enforcement found more than 500 units of equipment.
Measures are being taken to recover the tax from the miners.
The Tajik authorities remind that Bitcoin is not recognised as legal tender in Tajikistan, and transactions with it are prohibited.
Earlier, four residents of the republic were detained for illegal connection to power grids for Bitcoin mining and tax evasion. One of the miners spent electricity worth more than 1 million somoni (about $88,000) in 11 months.
