Currency.com at Two Years: 1,780 digital assets and a thirty-fold rise in trading volumes

In January 2019, Belarus’s High Technologies Park announced the launch of the Currency.com cryptocurrency exchange. It became the country’s first regulated platform for trading tokenised assets.

Since then Currency.com has obtained a license from Gibraltar, organised fundraising to fight the coronavirus, and endured the internet shutdown in Belarus.

In January 2021, the currency exchange marked its second anniversary and published отчет on its achievements. Here is its abridged version.

Platform growth: more than 290,000 new accounts in two years

In its first year of operation, Currency.com registered more than 43,000 accounts. In 2020, the number of registered accounts approached 250,000.

From 2019 to 2020, the exchange’s trading volume grew thirtyfold. The volume of client deposits rose threefold, from $17.5 million to nearly $55 million.

Geography of clients: from Belarus to Vietnam

Among Currency.com’s leading countries by client numbers are Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Brazil, Indonesia, Nigeria, South Korea, Canada and Vietnam.

The average account verification time on the exchange is 30 minutes. The record client deposit amount stood at $1 million.

In 2020, the number of Currency.com clients grew fivefold. An 8% decline was recorded only in Q3 2020.

Product and markets: from S&P 500 to GameStop and Dogecoin

Currency.com supports 1780 assets:

In December 2020, the exchange’s trading volume amounted to $2.6 billion. That was twice the trading volume for all of 2019 ($1.1 billion). Also in December, the maximum daily trading volume approached the $120 million mark.

Awards and regulation: ADVFN win and FinCEN registration

In 2019, Currency.com was named the “Best Cryptocurrency Exchange in the CIS” by Blockchain Life Awards.

In 2020, the exchange received three awards from the ADVFN International Financial Awards: “Best Regulated Cryptocurrency Exchange of the Year”, “Leading Mobile App for Cryptocurrency Trading” and “Breakthrough in Cryptocurrency Trading”.

In June 2020, Currency.com Limited received a licence from the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC). In August, the company was registered by Canada’s financial regulator (FINTRAC), and in October — the US financial regulator (FinCEN). After registration, Currency.com Limited began offering services to citizens of these countries.

International ADVFN awards recognise and celebrate the best products and services in the financial sector.

Plans for the future: new partnerships and services

Currency.com provides users with access to market news, forecasts and analytics for traders and investors. Each month more than 750,000 people visit the exchange’s site.

Currency.com offers additional services for corporate clients: personal account-manager consultations and higher limits for cashless transfers.

In the near future, Currency.com plans to partner with payment services, banks and financial institutions, and to add support for new fiat currencies and cryptocurrencies.
