The tokens, in the form of a box containing Chicken McNuggets, a Big Mac, a McSundae ice cream and fries, will be uploaded to the OpenSea marketplace. In total, five copies of each lot will be issued.
McDonald’s NFTs will not be available for purchase. The restaurant will run them as prizes on social media from April 9 to 13 and from April 14 to 18.
Going forward, winners will be able to exercise control over the tokens as they see fit.
“If someone wants to sell an NFT, that’s possible,” said Pierre Gengang, head of the social media department at the DDB agency, which handled the tokenisation of the images.
Winners of the contest will also receive a digital frame that reproduces the artwork in the real world.
In March, non-fungible tokens in the form of collectible digital tacos the Taco Bell fast-food restaurant chain released five tokens in the form of images, animations and short videos.
