“We work with a large number of young employees. We hear them talking about Bitcoin, and we want to offer them the opportunity to own cryptocurrency,” said Immensus co-founder Jonathan Gurevich.

Under Dutch law, employers are obliged to pay the statutory minimum wage only in euros. However, other payments may be taken in Bitcoin at employees’ discretion.

Every year on May 22, the cryptocurrency community marks Bitcoin Pizza Day. The occasion stems from a milestone for the industry when in 2010 programmer Laszlo Hanyecz bought two pizzas for 10,000 BTC. As of writing, they were worth about $360 million.

In February 2021, a Reddit user described plans by a pizza delivery driver to cash out Bitcoin tips that had sat since 2013.

In May 2020, Laszlo Hanyecz said that he actually spent far more on pizzas than 10,000 BTC.
