According to the press release, under a licensing agreement with the DFB, Sorare raised €40 million in a Series A funding round. It was led by the venture capital firm Benchmark.
The Global Fantasy Football platform allows users to buy, sell and trade cards, as well as use them in their own virtual football teams.
NFTs track players’ real-world performance—the metric affects token values. Card prices also depend on the national team’s standings in Euro 2020.
Sorare’s mission is to build a “game within a game.” The platform currently collaborates with more than 140 football clubs worldwide, including «Zenit», «Juventus» and «Paris Saint-Germain».
The French Football Federation became the first national federation to partner with Sorare. The two sides signed the relevant agreement on June 14.
