Portuguese Xiaomi reseller adds cryptocurrency payments

The authorized Xiaomi reseller in Portugal, Mi Store Portugal, added the option to pay for goods in cryptocurrencies. Among them are Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, Dash and the token of the payments provider Utrust.

The tweet was subsequently deleted. Cointelegraph preserved its screenshot.

Португальский реселлер Xiaomi добавил поддержку криптовалют

The initiative became possible thanks to a collaboration with Utrust. The startup will provide Xiaomi with the necessary infrastructure.

“We always want to stay one step ahead. To give all true hi-tech fans the opportunity to buy their favorite gadgets with what is currently the ‘most technological money’,” said Pedro Maia, Mi Store Portugal’s marketing director, to the publication.

Journalist Colin Wu explained that the reseller is not affiliated with Xiaomi and operates as an independent company.

“As a Chinese company, Xiaomi fears supporting cryptocurrencies that violate the laws of the country. At the same time, founder Lei Jun has invested in many cryptocurrency companies. Among them are Okcoin, Conflux and Certik”, explained the expert.

In June, the Xiaomi-backed online broker Tiger Brokers planned to add cryptocurrency trading to the platform’s functionality.

In March, the smartphone maker invested in the team behind the Ethereum wallet imToken.
