Illegally connected miners caused Rosseti 27 million rubles in losses

Specialists from Rosseti North Caucasus identified four new cases of electricity theft linked to mining farms in Dagestan, North Ossetia–Alania and Ingushetia.

According to this press service of the company, the Dagestan farm illegally consumed 1.9 million kWh, in Ingushetia the amount of stolen electricity exceeded 4.1 million kWh, and in North Ossetia–Alania it stood at 2 million kWh.

The total damage amounted to more than 27 million rubles.

Since 2019, Rosseti North Caucasus has identified 54 cases of unmetered energy consumption for cryptocurrency mining. The damage is estimated at nearly 300 million rubles.

“The regions of the North Caucasus Federal District are leaders among RF regions in both the number of crypto-mining energy thieves and in the volumes of electricity stolen for cryptocurrency mining,” the company said.

In June, Rosseti North Caucasus, together with law enforcement, disrupted the operation of two mining farms, illegally connected to power grids.
