Media reports: Official losses in Finiko case exceed 250 million rubles

The official losses in the Finiko pyramid case have risen to 250 million rubles. This is stated in the revised indictment filed by the Tatarstan interior ministry against Finiko founder Kirill Doronin, “Real Time”, citing sources.

The status of those harmed by the pyramid’s activities in this case has so far been granted to 80 people, although authorities in Tatarstan have already received more than a hundred statements from investors.

The largest loss among these claimants was 8 million rubles, but new victims continue to come forward. In August, a Moscow resident filed a report with the police after losing almost 18 million rubles on Finiko investments.

According to independent experts, the real damage from the pyramid’s activities exceeds $4 billion, and the number of victims stands at no fewer than 850 000 people.

Fraud charges have also been brought against Finiko’s three co-founders—Marat and Edward Sabirov and Zygmunt Zygmuntovich. According to media reports, in the new indictment, in addition to them and Doronin, an organised group is mentioned, whose members are not yet identified.

Note, two criminal cases have been opened against the four founders of the pyramid. The first of them was opened in December 2020 by the Prosecutor’s Office of Tatarstan on charges of illegally attracting funds totaling at least 80 million rubles.

In July 2021, a criminal investigation into fraud in a particularly large amount was opened.

Earlier, Finiko announced a suspension of payments and asked clients for documents confirming the origin of the invested funds, and later Doronin said he had lost access to users’ accounts. At the end of July he was detained in Kazan and remanded in custody until 28 September.

The Kazan court also granted requests for the arrest in absentia of the Sabirovs and Zygmunt Zygmuntovich, who managed to leave the Russian Federation. All three were placed on an international wanted list.
