BSN names first overseas portal operator

The company behind the development of China’s state Blockchain Service Network (BSN), Red Date Technology, announced the first portal operator outside the country. It was the South Korean startup MetaverseSociety.

According to the statement, MetaverseSociety has obtained exclusive operator rights in South Korea and will launch the portal in November 2021.

This will allow local developers to “quickly and efficiently create and operate blockchain applications” on the localized version of the platform, Red Date said.

In April 2020, BSN began operations after six months of beta testing. In July, the platform was split into two components: BSN-China and BSN-International. The former is oriented to China, adhering to its standards, while the latter targets other countries with greater flexibility in regulating the industry.

Around the same time, the platform’s creators announced integration into BSN-International of up to 100 public blockchains.

Among the supported BSN networks are Ethereum, EOS, Polkadot, NEO, Tezos, and Oasis. The platform also provides access to cloud services from Amazon, Google, and Microsoft.

According to Red Date’s Vice President of Global Sales, Tim Bailey, eight BSN portals are already operating in China. In September, a portal in Hong Kong, where BSN-International is headquartered, will enter commercial operation, he added.

Earlier, Forrester’s chief analyst Marta Bennett expressed doubts about the international success of China’s state blockchain platform due to political risks.

In June 2021, Red Date raised $30 million in a financing round led by the venture fund of oil giant Saudi Aramco and the Hong Kong investment company Kenetic.
