New York’s incoming mayor will take three paychecks in Bitcoin
Newly elected New York Mayor Eric Adams intends to take his first three paychecks in Bitcoin after taking office in January 2022. He said this in a comment to a tweet by Miami Mayor Francis Suarez.
Earlier, Suarez announced plans to receive the next salary in Bitcoin, and Adams decided to support this initiative.
“In New York we go big, so I will receive my first three paychecks in Bitcoin when I become mayor. New York will become the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing, innovative fields,” he wrote.
In a Bloomberg заявил that he would consider “barriers to Bitcoin growth” in New York and explore the prospect of creating his own city digital currency modeled on MiamiCoin.
Earlier, many cryptocurrency companies had to leave New York due to the BitLicense license, whose requirements are considered among the strictest in the industry at the state level.
During his campaign, Adams said he planned to make New York more friendly to technology and cryptocurrencies, and urged competition with Miami’s growing business ambitions.
In turn, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announced plans to invest 1% of municipal budget reserves in Bitcoin, to allow city workers to receive pay in digital gold and to attract Chinese miners cheap energy.
