Bitfury confirms Brian Brooks as CEO

Leading technology-solutions provider Bitfury Group confirmed that Brian Brooks, the former head of the U.S. Treasury’s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and the head of Binance US, has taken the post as the company’s chief executive officer.

According to the statement, he began work on 29 October 2021, as the firm “prepares for a new round of financing”. Bitfury founder Valery Vavilov will become chair of the board and CVO.

Previously Brooks was chief legal officer at the Bitcoin exchange Coinbase. Since the summer of 2020 he headed the OCC, and on 14 January 2021 resigned. Subsequently, Brooks became an independent member of the board of directors of the Spring Labs startup.

In May, the specialist joined Binance US. The parties expected that his experience would help lend legitimacy to the exchange’s operations in the United States.

However, in August Brooks suddenly left the company. According to the media, the reason was his conflict with the founder of the cryptocurrency exchange Changpeng Zhao.

Back in March 2021, Cipher Mining Technologies Inc, the US-based subsidiary of Bitfury Top HoldCo BV, agreed to merge with Nasdaq-listed Good Works Acquisition Corp.

In October, Bitfury Group CEO Vadim Krutov in a ForkLog interview clarified that the company “will consider the possibility of an IPO among options to support the group’s further growth”.
