Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht to release NFT collection
The Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht will auction off his NFT collection.
Plans for the auction are announced on Ulbricht’s Twitter account, run by a supporter.
The collection, titled Ross Ulbricht Genesis Collection, consists of 11 drawings by Ulbricht created at different periods of his life, in NFT form. The auction will run from 2 to 8 December on the Superare NFT platform.
Proceeds will be directed to funding measures to secure the release of the Silk Road founder from prison, and to launch the Art4Giving charitable fund — meant to ease the suffering of prisoners and their families.
In 2015 a court found Ulbricht guilty of operating the darknet marketplace Silk Road and other crimes, including drug trafficking and a conspiracy to launder funds. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
In December 2020 the then-president Donald Trump instructed White House counsel to study the documents related to Ross Ulbricht’s case. However, he did not make it into the final list for clemency, as did former CIA officer Edward Snowden and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
Earlier in February, Elon Musk called it an overreach the Silk Road founder’s sentence.
