Former VK Head Joins The Open Network Project

The vice-president of the VK Group and former head of the social network VKontakte, Andrey Rogozov, has joined The Open Network (TON) blockchain development team. ForkLog confirmed the information with the project’s press service.

Rogozov will oversee the creation of services, including those based on the network’s native token Toncoin. A few more people will join the project alongside him, their names are not yet disclosed.

According to Andrey Rogozov, the TON project is on track for full integration with the Telegram messenger:

“We are currently in talks with the Telegram team, as well as with development teams working on various projects.”

The TON press service, in a comment to ForkLog, confirmed plans to integrate its services into Telegram, noting that it is “an excellent platform for interaction between developers and users.”

“An integration with the @donаte service has already been implemented, which allows access to private Telegram channels for Toncoin,” added project representatives.

By the end of 2022, the developers планируют запустить TON Payments, a TON DNS domain-name service, the TON Proxy anonymizer, TON Storage cloud data storage, and a number of other solutions.

Last week, rapper Morgenshtern backed the TON developers, who said he invested 10 million rubles in Toncoin.

Prior to that, the founder of Telegram Pavel Durov praised the project’s development, adding that The Open Network is not dependent on the messenger’s team.

In May 2020, Durov announced the closure of the Telegram Open Network project due to a legal clash with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Subsequently, several independent development teams continued to work on the open-source blockchain. One of them was Newton, which later renamed itself The Open Network.

In August 2021, the Telegram team handed over the ton.org domain and the GitHub repository to the project.
