The deal was conducted on the OpenSea marketplace. BAYC #3001 was acquired by the account JustinBieberNFTS, which is believed to belong to the Canadian singer. His wallet stores 750 NFTs, including inBetweeners #3777, pictured in the artist’s Twitter profile photo.
A researcher using the pseudonym interlunations suggested that the purchase of BAYC #3001 may have been financed by Drew Gianpierre D’Alessandro, the designer behind Bieber’s fashion label. He is also the founder of the NFT collection inBetweeners.
Shortly before the purchase, 916 ETH was transferred to the purported singer’s wallet, of which 500 ETH were used to buy the NFT. Whether this was part of a promotional campaign remains unknown. The only evident link is Bieber’s association with D’Alessandro.
The article text has been amended to emphasise the lack of direct evidence that the JustinBieberNFTS account controls Bieber.
In an Instagram post, the singer shared a photo featuring BAYC #3001.
According to Rarity.Tools, the purchased NFT carries a number of rare attributes. The black T‑shirt appears in only 3% of BAYC tokens, and the ‘sad’ eyes in 5.5%.

According to OpenSea, the minimum price of BAYC tokens is 106.9 ETH (~$277,940). The amount Bieber paid was the seventh-largest for the collection on the marketplace.
Over the past 24 hours the purported singer’s account also bought Doodle #8426 (13 ETH, ~$33,800), Killer GF #7135 (1.89 ETH, ~$4,900) and Woman #7853 (16 ETH, ~$41,600).

Earlier, BAYC NFT was acquired by American rapper Eminem. He paid 123.45 ETH for the token (over $450,000 at the rate at the time).
In December 2021 Adidas earned 5,924 ETH (about $23.5m) from selling NFTs in collaboration with BAYC, GMoney and PunksComic.
