Saint Kitts and Nevis prime minister signals possible legalisation of Bitcoin Cash
Bitcoin Cash could become legal tender in Saint Kitts and Nevis. This was stated by the Caribbean nation’s prime minister Terrence Drew at the Bitcoin Cash 2022 conference, according to CoinDesk.
He said that the legalization of the digital asset in the country could take place as early as March 2023. Drew — who is also Saint Kitts and Nevis’s finance minister — announced consultations with experts and the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.
“Our nation has always been a forward-looking leader in exploring new industries,” he said.
According to the prime minister, the cryptocurrency revolution could bring “huge advantages and opportunities for business.”
If approved, Saint Kitts and Nevis would become the third country to recognise cryptocurrency as legal tender. Earlier this was done by El Salvador and the Central African Republic, legalising Bitcoin.
Former MicroStrategy chief Michael Saylor described Bitcoin as a ‘hope’ for Lebanon, whose currency has fallen 96% against the US dollar.
