Microsoft integrates image generator into Bing and Edge

Microsoft unveiled a preview version of Bing Image Creator, which adds image generation based on OpenAI’s DALL-E to the search engine and the Edge browser.

To use the service, you must prompt the chatbot to create an image either from a direct description or by continuing the previous dialogue. You can also refine the request and revise the final result.

The company said it is aware of the risks and misuse by users. To prevent the tool from generating toxic content, developers have implemented their own protection mechanism in addition to OpenAI’s methods.

Microsoft also explicitly notes that the images are generated by artificial intelligence and that the results are watermarked.

Image Creator is available to a limited group of beta testers on PC and mobile devices in chat and on a dedicated site. Edge users can also access the service from the sidebar.

For now, the tool operates in creative mode. In the future Microsoft plans to add precise and balanced styles, as well as optimise the system’s behavior in multi-step chats.

The tool provides users with 25 boosters per week, designed to speed up image generation. Each request costs one token. After boosters are exhausted, the company offers to obtain them via Bing Rewards points or wait for replenishment.

The technology currently supports only English. Other localisations are in development.

In February, Microsoft introduced the chat mode in the Bing search engine.
