Nabiullina Announces Limits on Digital Ruble Transactions

The Central Bank of Russia will impose limits on wallet top-ups with the digital ruble. This was заявила by the regulator’s head, Elvira Nabiullina, during her address to the State Duma.

The central bank plans to charge corporate entities fees for digital ruble operations. The exact size of the commission has not been determined; it is noted only that it will not be higher than in the в системе быстрых платежей.

Experts had previously described such a move by the regulator as nonsense in the absence of demand for the digital ruble.

Earlier this week the Bank of Russia released an FAQ on the digital ruble, in which, in particular, it debunked the myths about total surveillance and the asset’s shelf life.

As noted, the planned on 1 April pilot launch of the CBDC did not take place due to a lack of regulatory framework — the related bill has only passed its first reading.
