Liechtenstein to allow citizens to pay government services with Bitcoin

The Liechtenstein government will allow citizens to use Bitcoin to pay for government services. In an interview with Handelsblatt, the country’s prime minister Daniel Risch said.

\”The possibility of paying with Bitcoin will appear soon,\” he said, without giving a specific timeframe.

The publication noted that a similar approach is used by some Swiss municipalities, in particular, the canton of Zug.

Risch also did not exclude that the state could invest part of its reserves in Bitcoin.

Liechtenstein is a crypto-friendly jurisdiction. In 2019 the country’s parliament passed the Blockchain Act (Liechtenstein Blockchain Act), which created a regulated environment for providers of services related to digital assets.

In May 2022, LGT Bank, belonging to Liechtenstein’s princely house, offered crypto custody services to private clients, as well as the possibility of investing in Bitcoin and Ethereum.
