Every year on May 22 the cryptocurrency community marks Bitcoin Pizza Day. The occasion stems from a milestone when in 2010 programmer Laszlo Hanyecz bought two Papa John’s pizzas for 10 000 BTC.
2023 conducted campaigns and giveaways in celebration of the holiday.
In May 2020, Laszlo Hanyecz revealed that he had actually spent far more than 10,000 BTC on pizzas.
In 2021, the management of the Dutch Domino’s Pizza franchise offered staff the option to be paid in the leading cryptocurrency in honor of Bitcoin Pizza Day.
