
773 Bitcoin miners seized in Dagestan
Law enforcement agencies of Dagestan seized 773 mining devices illegally connected to power grids. The information was reported by the Republic’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The farm was located in a non-residential building on the premises of a farming enterprise in the village of Novoe-Gadari.
The 47-year-old owner had initially registered a cryptocurrency-mining business, but later illegally installed a second power line.
The police seized the ASIC miners and opened an investigation into the matter.
Over six months, Rosseti North Caucasus identified electricity theft for cryptocurrency mining amounting to more than 5.7 million kWh, worth 23 million rubles.
Energy officials prepared acts of unaccounted consumption for each case and forwarded the materials to law enforcement.
In one of the cases, a criminal case has already been opened. According to its materials, at the Dagestan-Ethanol plant in Makhachkala there were 341 ASIC miners. The equipment illegally consumed more than 1.5 million kWh, worth 1.5 million rubles.
In late July, a Malaysian electricity provider Sarawak Energy detected on the island of Borneo mining farm, whose owners were involved in illegal cryptocurrency mining. The farm consisted of 34 ASIC miners, connected to the grid via cable tapping.
