ConsenSys outlines cross-chain project MetaMask Snaps

The forthcoming update MetaMask — Snaps — will allow users to interact with applications from blockchains beyond the EVM-networks. Simon Morris, head of strategy at ConsenSys, said this, according to Cointelegraph.

According to Morris, Snaps will function as an App Store for crypto wallets, allowing external teams to launch new dapps.

The first batch of applications will undergo security review, and developers will be whitelisted by ConsenSys. In the future, the company aims to make this process as seamless as releasing software on the internet.

Morris noted that the update would arrive later this year. Initially, Snaps will support the Bitcoin network, Solana, Avalanche and StarkNet.

A ConsenSys representative noted that some users experience fear and anxiety when signing transactions. According to him, the new wallet functionality could smooth over this issue. Snaps will also allow developers to send messages to users.

For those wishing to try the beta, the MetaMask Flask program is available. However Morris warned that it is more of a toolkit.

Previously the crypto wallet team integrated the ability to cash out digital assets to a bank card or PayPal account.

According to CoinGecko report, in 2023 MetaMask became the most popular non-custodial wallet with more than 22.66 million installs.

In July, the developers updated the browser extension interface in release v10.33.
