Ethereum Surpasses Solana and Bitcoin in Attracting New Developers
Since the start of the year, the ecosystem has attracted over 16,000 specialists.
Since the beginning of 2025, the number of developers in the ecosystem of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization has increased by 16,181. This was reported by representatives of the Ethereum Foundation, citing data from Electric Capital.

The blockchain has become the leader in this metric. The top three also include Solana and Bitcoin, which attracted 11,534 and 7,494 new specialists, respectively. Polygon took fourth place with 3,681, and Stacks came fifth with 3,246.
Ethereum remains the leading blockchain in terms of active developers, with 31,869. This is nearly double the number of its closest competitor, Solana, which has 17,708 specialists working on its platform.

As noted by one user, developers choose Ethereum for several reasons:
- deep liquidity;
- powerful tools;
- advanced second layer;
- on-chain demand.
The blockchain of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization remains the largest ecosystem in the industry. Dozens of L2 solutions operate on Ethereum.
According to L2Beat, more than $52.94 billion is locked in second-layer networks. Over the past year, this figure has increased by 28.8%.

The top three solutions include Arbitrum, Base, and Optimism.
Ethereum is also a “home” for decentralized applications and protocols. The TVL of the DeFi sector based on the network of the second-largest cryptocurrency exceeds $87.2 billion.

Community Reaction
User opinions on Ethereum’s achievement were divided. Some doubted that specialists truly prefer the leading altcoin’s network for development.
“I’ve been working on Ethereum for eight years, and it’s still the worst user experience imaginable. I’m not dramatizing or exaggerating for effect. It’s an absolutely terrible platform from the perspective of an ordinary user, and I don’t understand why it has so many developers — if there are so many, why can’t they just make it better?”, — wrote a user with the nickname Guy on the Earth.
Others emphasized that any specialist entering the blockchain “ultimately transitions to Ethereum.”
Many were also surprised by the number of new and active developers in the network of the first cryptocurrency.
“What do these 7000+ Bitcoin specialists do all day?”, — inquired a community member under the pseudonym Suraj Sharma.
Earlier, the Ethereum scaling project Brevis introduced a zkEVM technology called Pico Prism. It brought the blockchain closer to the target of 10,000 TPS.
