A user accidentally paid a $9,500 fee for a $120 transaction.

One of the Ethereum holders accidentally paid a fee that was 80 times the cost of the transaction. The error occurred during a trade on the decentralised exchange Uniswap.

A Reddit user under the pseudonym ProudBitcoiner wrote that he paid $9,500 to process a transaction worth $120. According to him, the MetaMask wallet misfilled the ‘gas limit’ field, and when entering the value manually ProudBitcoiner confused this field with the ‘gas price’. In the latter he entered 200,000 Gwei.

Earlier in October 2020, a trader transferred about $1.1 million in AAVE tokens to a smart contract address that does not provide a refund function. Within a month, several others made similar mistakes.
