Amazon Develops AI for Video and Image Processing

Amazon has developed a new generative AI for handling images and videos, in addition to text. This was reported by The Information, citing sources.

According to the publication, the development will help the company reduce its reliance on the popular Claude chatbot from AI startup Anthropic, which is used on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The new large language model, codenamed Olympus, will be able to analyze images and videos based on prompts, assisting clients in finding specific scenes, such as successful basketball shots.

Amazon is preparing to unveil Olympus next week at the annual AWS re:Invent conference, a source told The Information.

Meanwhile, journalists from the Financial Times learned about additional investments by Amazon in Anthropic amounting to $4 billion, bringing the total investment to $8 billion.

This deal marks the company’s largest venture investment. In September of last year, it invested $1.25 billion in the developer of Claude, and by the end of March 2024, increased the amount to $4 billion.

Earlier reports revealed the integration of Claude into the updated Alexa voice assistant.
