Amazon to Integrate AI into Alexa with Anthropic's Claude

Amazon’s revamped Alexa voice assistant will be powered by Anthropic’s AI model, Claude, according to Reuters, citing sources.

The launch of the new Alexa version is scheduled for October. The company opted for a third-party AI provider due to issues with its own neural network, which took six to seven seconds to confirm a request and respond, the agency notes. Claude proved more efficient than Amazon’s in-house models.

“Amazon uses a variety of technologies to operate Alexa. When it comes to machine learning models, we start with those developed by Amazon. We have used and will continue to use various models, including Titan [developed by the company] and future Amazon models, as well as our partners’ products, to create the best experience for customers,” a company representative commented.

The Alexa assistant can set timers, play music, function as a hub for smart home management, and answer questions.

In March, Amazon announced new investments of $2.75 billion in Anthropic. In total, the tech giant has invested $4 billion.

In June, the AI startup unveiled its new AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet.
