Apple Integrates ChatGPT in iOS 18.2 Beta
Apple has released beta versions of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 for developers, featuring new Apple Intelligence functions, including ChatGPT integration, reports TechCrunch.
To activate the chatbot, permission must be granted. It answers questions via Siri and assists with writing in any app that supports the new Writing Tools feature.
If Apple’s voice assistant cannot independently answer a question, it suggests consulting the OpenAI platform.
Additionally, the update includes:
- emoji generation within Genmoji;
- an image creation platform, Image Playground;
- technologies for visual information analysis, Visual Intelligence;
- an object removal feature for photos, Image Wand.
Genmoji can create emojis based on prompts, which can be used in messages and reactions.
Visual Intelligence is accessible via a camera control button introduced in the iPhone 16 lineup. The tool can scan QR codes, text, identify phone numbers and email addresses for contact addition, and translate information into another language. The service accesses ChatGPT.
Image Playground can generate images based on prompts or photos.
The public release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 is expected next week. It features a new Siri image, several other voice assistant improvements, an updated photo search, and other innovations using artificial intelligence.
Among non-AI related updates in iOS 18.2: Apple added the ability to delete App Store, Camera, Safari, Messages, and Photos apps in the EU to comply with regulatory requirements. The App Store can be restored in settings if needed.
Back in June, Apple announced a major initiative in AI, Apple Intelligence, which includes ChatGPT integration.
Soon after, Elon Musk threatened to ban Apple devices in his companies if the OpenAI chatbot was added to operating systems for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
