BBC: Football fans spent more than $350 million on fan tokens

Fans of football clubs bought fan tokens for a total of more than $350 million. The report, an analytical study commissioned by BBC News, says so.

According to the study, 24 football clubs have launched fan tokens or are considering such a move. Among them are eight clubs that play in the English Premier League.

Most of these clubs issue tokens through the Socios platform. The company said it sold tokens worth about $300 million through its own app.

The most popular tokens were those of Lazio, Manchester City, Porto and Santos.

Analysts say that the main aim of most buyers of such tokens is speculation.

Socios has partnered with football clubs Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, West Ham United, Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, «Milan», «Inter» and «Arsenal», as well as the national teams of Portugal and Argentina.
