Biden Campaign Considers Accepting Cryptocurrency Donations
The re-election campaign for U.S. President Joe Biden is in discussions about the possibility of accepting cryptocurrency donations through Coinbase Commerce, according to The Block, citing sources.
Individuals familiar with the matter noted that Biden is aiming to attract funds from voters who support digital assets.
“They are paying attention to issues related to cryptocurrency and are trying to find quick wins to show support for the industry and prove that the president is not an adversary,” stated an anonymous insider.
According to the publication, Biden’s inner circle is warning his team about the risk of losing the election if they “continue to remain silent on cryptocurrency and do not get up to speed.”
However, the talks about accepting donations in digital assets are currently “exploratory.”
Previously, Biden’s political opponent, Donald Trump, had already begun accepting crypto donations. The presidential candidate uses Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and other digital currencies.
According to survey results published in early May across several states, over 20% of participants identified candidates’ positions on digital assets as crucial.
According to a Paradigm survey, about 48% of voters who own digital assets plan to vote for Trump. Another 38% support Biden, while 13% remain undecided.
Back in early June, Joe Biden vetoed Personnel Bulletin 121, which would have allowed regulated companies like banks to hold cryptocurrency on their balance sheets.
