«The amount for this exchange is quite significant. During the hack, 24,000 BTC were stolen. The exchange could not reimburse the funds to users, after which it ceased operations», the authors of the Telegram channel said.

They speculated that the bitcoins belonged to one of Bitfloor’s founders. They were later sold on an off-exchange OTC platform.

AMLBot also flagged the transaction as high risk and linked it to a dubious exchange.

As reported in January 2017, the U.S. Department of Justice charged BTC-e, the oldest Russian cryptocurrency exchange, with laundering funds from Bitfloor. According to investigators, the platform’s coins passed through the same wallets as assets stolen in attacks on Bitcoinica and several other exchanges in 2011–2012.

The Russian national Alexander Vinnik, convicted in the case, was sentenced to five years in prison in France and a fine of €100,000. His lawyers filed an appeal, as well as a lawsuit against the judges who decided to extradite the Russian to Paris.

Later the defense demanded dropping the charges against Vinnik and paying €5 million in moral damages.
