Bitmain Unveils Bitcoin Miner with 9.5 J/TH Energy Efficiency

Bitmain has introduced the flagship of its latest series of bitcoin miners, the Antminer S23 Hydro, boasting an energy efficiency of 9.5 J/TH.

The hydro-cooled device delivers a hash rate of 580 TH/s with a power consumption of 5.51 kW.

Presenting the S23 Hydro at the WDMS 2025 summit, Bitmain’s President of Mining, Irene Gao, outlined the manufacturer’s strategy to overcome the current downturn in equipment demand, reports TheMinerMag.

The company will offer buyers flexible payment terms, including installment options with a 40% down payment and the balance payable in two equal installments of 30%, as well as the possibility of pledging bitcoins for up to six months.

Early buyers can purchase the units at $30 per TH/s, with a 15% coupon discount bringing the price down to $25.5. Sales begin on May 28, with the first deliveries expected in the first quarter of 2026.

In March, Bitmain’s competitor, Bitdeer, announced successful tests of its bitcoin mining chip SEAL03, which demonstrated an energy efficiency of 9.7 J/TH. Production of SEALMINER A3 units based on this chip is scheduled for the fourth quarter, with a projected efficiency of 11-12 J/TH.

Launched by Bitdeer in March, the updated SEALMINER A2 Pro from the previous series delivers 14.9 J/TH.

According to Hashrate Index, prices for the latest generation ASIC miners with a power consumption ratio of no more than 19 J/TH have recently hovered slightly above $17 per TH/s.

Bitdeer intensified its development of mining chips after receiving $100 million in investment from Tether in May 2024. Later, the company acquired chip developer FreeChain Inc (Desiweminer).
