Bitstamp appoints new global CEO

The cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp confirmed the resignation of Julian Soyer as CEO. He will be replaced by Jean-Baptiste Graftieaux, the company said on its website.

In October 2021, Soyer replaced Neich Kodricha as the exchange’s CEO. According to the press release, after 18 months in the role he “decided to pursue other opportunities”.

From November 2014 to February 2016, Graftieaux held the position of Head of Regulatory Compliance at Bitstamp, according to his profile on LinkedIn. In 2021, after a five-year stint at eBay, he returned as the exchange’s European-region CEO.

“We are pleased to welcome a chief executive with such an impressive track record and we very much look forward to the contributions and prospects he will bring to the company in his new role,” the statement said.

According to CoinGecko, at the time of writing Bitstamp ranks 20th among the largest cryptocurrency exchanges.

In August 2021, media reported about Kodricha’s lawsuit against the owners of the cryptocurrency exchange after their attempt to buy out the remaining stake from him on previously agreed terms.

Before this, Bitstamp announced an impending expansion into the US market and announced the appointment of former top Bitcoin exchange Kraken and CME Group executive Robert Zagotta as head of the US unit.

Earlier in October 2021, another major trading platform — Binance —announced the appointment of Brian Schroder as CEO of its US unit.
