Bitstamp gains Italian licence to operate in Italy

Bitstamp has obtained approval from the Italian regulator OAM to provide services to residents of the country. CoinDesk reports.

“Italy is one of the most important markets in Europe, and we are pleased to provide its citizens with a safe and reliable way to trade cryptocurrencies,” said Bitstamp CEO Jean-Baptiste Graftie.

According to him, the local regulator’s licence is part of the exchange’s global plans to provide services across Europe and the world.

According to OAM, Bitstamp is listed in the registry of digital asset service providers. The Italian office of the platform is located in Milan.

In July, the Italian regulator granted a licence to operate in Italy to the cryptocurrency platform Crypto.com.

Earlier, regulatory approval was granted to exchanges Coinbase and Binance.

Earlier, Bitstamp announced a €10 monthly charge for inactive customers. However, after criticism from the community the company abandoned the move.
