Michael Rihani, head of the bitcoin product development, demonstrated how simple it is. A user needs to open the app, go to the Money tab and select Bitcoin. The generated QR code or link will allow a transaction from any wallet that supports LN.
The feature is available in the latest version of the mobile app on iOS and Android devices. The first users to access LN via Cash App will be in the United States, excluding New York.
In 2019, the founder and CEO of Block (then Square) Jack Dorsey said that LN integration into the app would be a matter of time.
Dorsey is a well-known Bitcoin advocate. He has repeatedly said that digital gold will become the “native currency of the Internet”.
In October 2020, Block announced the purchase of bitcoin for $50 million. The company also invested $170 million in the primary cryptocurrency over the course of the fourth quarter.
In June 2021, Dorsey, who was then leading Twitter, allowed the integration of LN into the social network or its funded BlueSky project.
As of early October 2022, the capacity of the LN network reached 4,878 BTC, and the number of nodes stood at 17,449, according to the analytical ForkLog report.
