Coinbase staff memorialise their marriage on the Ethereum blockchain

Coinbase staff Rebecca Rose and Peter Kacherginsky recorded their marriage on the Ethereum blockchain and released rings as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

In addition to the traditional Jewish wedding ceremony, Kacherginsky wrote an Ethereum-based smart contract named Tabaat (Hebrew for ‘ring’).

NFT rings with the TBT ticker are stored in the couple’s crypto wallets. The animation of two circles merging into one was drawn by artist Carl Johan Hasselrot [Carl Johan Hasselrot].

The marriage smart contract cost the couple 0.2548 ETH (~$519 at the time of writing).

“Blockchain, unlike physical objects, is eternal. It cannot be stopped or censored. It does not require anyone’s permission. As is fitting for love. What could be more romantic than that?” wrote Rose.

In 2018 the Bitfury Group authenticated the marriages of 20 newlyweds by placing their marriage certificates on the Bitcoin blockchain.

Earlier, a Reddit user lost his wife due to refusal to sell bitcoin at the $60,000 mark.
