Authorities in Sakhalin have opened a criminal case into large-scale fraud following a local resident’s loss of more than 4 million rubles.
According to the МВД, at the end of March a ‘cryptocurrency investment consultant’ contacted the applicant and his wife by phone and offered his services for a fee of 10% of the profits.
The victim made several transfers to the scammers’ wallets — totaling more than 4 million rubles.
At the end of April the couple tried to withdraw the money to their cards, but they received refusals on various pretexts. They then turned to the police.
Earlier, a resident of Primorsky Krai became a victim of scammers while trying to acquire cryptocurrency and lost 3 million rubles.
